The country singer was also caught off guard by one of Ellen's notorious scare pranks.

Kacey Musgraves stopped by The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Monday (Oct. 8) for a delicate, acoustic performance of "Happy & Sad." She also ended up being the newest victim of Ellen's scare pranks.

Congratulating Musgraves on her CMA Awards album of the year nomination, host Ellen DeGeneres pointed out how the country singer is the only female nominee in the category. The pair then took it back to Musgraves' early career, when she used to dress up as Hannah Montana for kids' birthday parties.

“That was a brief snap, it didn't go well and I got paid in change. I tried to rip my wig off and he was like, 'You’re not the real Hannah Montana!'” Musgraves recalled. Just as the 30-year-old was finishing the anecdote, one of Ellen’s staff members popped out of a box wearing a blonde wig, completely catching Musgraves off guard. "That was Hannah Montana!" Ellen said, laughing as Musgraves recovered from the prank.

The singer then delivered a beautiful performance of her slow simmering ballad "Happy & Sad," from her March album Golden Hour.
