Carrie Underwood Ignites Controversy With Fertility Comments: See the Tweets
Carrie Underwood has fired up her fan base after saying she's not sure she can have any more children at her age.
“I’m 35, so we may have missed our chance to have a big family,” the country singer said during an interview with Redbook for the September issue. “We always talk about adoption and doing it when our child or children are a little older.”
Some fans supported her decision, while others encouraged the singer to keep trying to have children anyway. One supporter tweeted, "Carrie, you can still have babies at 35… women are having babies later in life than your mother Carol’s generation. They try to establish their careers where Mom’s generation a lot of times we’re happy as housewives. Nowadays, you need two salary’s to make a ‘go of it” w/ children.”
Fans who are siding with Underwood's statement have largely been citing the possible medical risks surrounding fertility in women over 40.
“It is a medical FACT that when a woman reaches 40 she is in the HIGH risk for having a child, I have a daughter-in-law that has just gone through that with her doctor and he has said that with each year it can get worse,” one fan wrote on Facebook. "So what Carrie is saying is backed up by the medical expert’s.”
Carrie and her husband, former NHL player Mike Fisher, already have one child together, three year-old son Isaiah. The singer is gearing up to release her first new album in three years, Cry Pretty, on Sept. 14.

If you're upset about the statements @carrieunderwood made about fertility, you're part of the problem here in the states. Why get upset about something so trivial? I'm trying to have a kid at 43 and I don't mind what she said. Leave her alone for crying out loud..— Robby (@TheLastRobby) August 6, 2018
I feel bad you're getting backlash for making a comment about missing your chance for a big family since you're 35. They need to mind their own business. Ppl have no idea what kind of parent you want to be or what kind of health issues you could be having. I was told getting— EVR (@reust_ev) August 6, 2018
