Go Behind The Scenes on Keith Urban's 'Graffiti U' Tour: Exclusive
Seasoned professional that he is, it’s hard to believe that Keith Urban still gets the jitters before he kicks off a tour, but the country superstar swears he does.
“It’s not knowing what the connection is going to be between the show and the audience,” he tells Billboard. “I heard it said there’s two ways to lose your audience: always give them what they want and never give them what they want, so you’re always trying to find a balance of the two things and you don’t know if you’ve got the mixture right and you’re got it in front of them.”
Get a sneak peek of what's to come in this exclusive look at the last day of rehearsals for the tour, at Vanderbilt University’s very hot basketball arena in Nashville, before the show hits the road. “We’ve been having a blast putting this together,” Urban says in the clip, before launching into an impromptu version of Jackson Browne’s classic road anthem, “The Load Out.”
Expect a lot of songs, including current hit “Coming Home,” off Urban’s new album, Graffiti U, which debuted atop Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart and at No. 2 on the all-genre Billboard 200. There will also be “some reworking of older songs,” Urban says, though he quickly adds, “without tinkering too much because people want to sing along.”
Urban's wife, Nicole Kidman, and two young daughters will join Urban on the road sporadically. "What I try to do is go to the shows and come home," he says, "but if I’m out for any length of time they always come out."
