Midland Share Style Tips & Reveal the Cocktail That Has No 'Drinkin' Problem': Watch
Midland broke onto the country scene in a major way last year with their single "Drinkin' Problem," a cheeky play-on-words tune that was a hit with country fans and drinking fans alike. The song, which is featured on the group's debut album, On the Rocks, helped earn the group their first top five single on Country Airplay and a pair of Grammy nominations this year.
As indicated by the alcohol-related wordplay on their single and album, the Midland guys (singer Mark Wystrach, guitarist Jess Carson, and bassist Cameron Duddy) love a good cocktail -- but what do they not have any problem drinkin' at all?
"Mezcal," Wystrach reveals. "Take a little Sal de Gusano, a little bit of spicy salt and take an orange wedge, dip it in that. Shoot the Mezcal, you suck on the orange, and it's fuckin' delicious."
Also known for their wacky red carpet and performance getups, all three of the Midland dudes are hardly ever seen without a cowboy hat. Carson insists this isn't because they're a country trio: "It keeps the hair from going in your face when you're singing, getting in your mouth. It's a functional piece, but it also looks cool."
Midland's unique style -- both music-wise and fashion-wise -- earned them three nominations for this year's Academy of Country Music Awards, including single record of the year for "Drinkin' Problem." The band has already been revealed as the winner of the new vocal duo of the year award but will find out their fate for the other two at the show on Sunday (April 15).
