Watch Cam Perform Haunting Version of 'Palace,' the Song She Wrote for Sam Smith
Finding a way to pour more heartache into Sam Smith's "Palace" is like trying to kick up the spice on a ghost pepper. But the heart is a lonely hunter, and just in case the haunting ballad about a love that never dies from Smith's The Thrill of It All didn't leave you sobbing in a puddle the first time ("My head is filled with ruins/ Most of them are built with you... Sometimes I wish we never built this palace/ But real love is never a waste of time"), Cam is here to wet your tears.
The "Burning House" country singer/songwriter who co-wrote the song for Smith with her frequent collaborator, producer Tyler Johnson, recently posted a bare-bones video of her version of the track with Johnson on guitar and, yes, she is trying to break your heart. Cam, whose "Diane" single will be featured on her upcoming sophomore album -- again written and produced with Johnson -- also sang "Palace" onstage with Smith for the first time at Sam's shows at the O2 in London over the weekend.
Check out Cam's video below and her performance with Smith below.
From sitting in a studio writing this song with Sam Smith and Tyler Johnson, to seeing it released on Sam’s album, then part of a beautiful Apple commercial, then a hit in Japan, and now performing it live with Sam at his sold out shows in London... I never in a million years could have even dreamt of all this. Going to bed with a full heart and so much to be grateful for. Thank you to everyone who has bought this record, I hope it saves someone in some small way to hear those words “Real love is never a waste of time” -- @samsmithworld @tylersamj
