Watch Blake Shelton Film His 'Time Capsule' Video For 'I Lived It' in Behind the Scenes Clip: Exclusive
Blake Shelton's latest hit is an ode to his Oklahoma upbringings, and the video for the Texoma Shore track is just as nostalgic as its lyrics. Naturally, while filming, the "I'll Name the Dogs" singer got a little sentimental too.
"It's basically a time capsule, and I'm walking through this farm that I grew up on and I'm seeing images of myself growing up, recalling all these memories of me fishing, my first truck, and me as a kid," Shelton says in a behind-the-scenes clip from the video, premiering on Billboard today (March 14).
Before Shelton returned to his role as veteran coach on The Voice for Season 14, he drove a few hours north of Los Angeles to film his "I Lived It" video. And although the location he filmed it wasn't one that held a special place in Shelton's heart, the video's sibling director/producer pair Adam Rothlein and Jen Ansell -- along with actors Jordan Dolatre and Zachary Beck, who played younger versions of Blake -- helped him channel the exact kind of evocativeness the song brings itself.
“I loved the way this video came together and how we were able to incorporate different aspects of my life," Shelton tells Billboard. "'I Lived It' is the kind of song that takes me back to my childhood. I recorded this album on the shores of Lake Texoma, a special place with a lot of memories, and it was great working with Adam and Jen to bring those to life.”
The countryside-like setting resulted in a touching sequence of Shelton reflecting on his fond memories, even though he quips in the behind-the-scenes footage that he basically had to pretend he was seeing what he does in the actual video. Despite the rather awkward faking he had to do while filming, Shelton was a good sport -- and, of course, played it off with a joke: "They're promising me this is gonna turn out cool," he says in the bit, "so, if it doesn't, this could be the last video I do before I go to jail."
