The band also played a (hilarious) game of "On the Record" while hanging with Billboard in Nashville.

Three-piece country crooners Midland are gaining speed on radio airwaves lately, currently sitting at No. 14 on the Country Airplay chart (dated July 1) with their hit "Drinkin' Problem." But the Big Machine Label Group act is ready to be more than a one-hit wonder, announcing Friday (June 23) that their debut album is set to be released Sept. 22.

While Billboard was down in Nashville for this year's CMA Fest, we got a chance to catch up with the Midland guys to chat about how they got their start as a trio and what fans can expect from the not-yet-titled album.

"We're working really hard at cultivating an album full of songs that mean something to us but also fit together," Midland's Cameron Duddy tells Billboard. "Picking songs that fit together nice and tell our story and represent the place that we're at right now in music has been the agenda for putting this thing together, and we're very excited to share it with people. We're proud of it."

Frontman Mark Wystrach added that their live performance is the most crucial part of who they are as a band, which means that the entire record will be tracked live. "The big thing for us is translating the recordings into the live show," he says.

In addition to the interview, Duddy, Wystrach and third bandmate Jess Carson played "On the Record" with Billboard, giving a little more insight into who they are musically -- also revealing that they are some serious jokesters. (Just wait until you see what Duddy found for "A record you wish you were on.")
