GLAAD Partners With CMT for 2017 Concert for Love and Acceptance, Hosted by Ty Herndon & Cody Alan
GLAAD has announced its participation in the 2017 Concert for Love and Acceptance. The show champions LGBTQ rights and will benefit at-risk youth, taking place at Nashville's Wildhorse Saloon on June 8. Ty Herndon and CMT’s Cody Alan are set to host the event, which will feature performances by Trent Harmon, Billy Gillman, Kree Harrison, Lorrie Morgan, Thompson Square and Mickey Guyton.
“Country music is changing rapidly, and country fans are embracing that change. From Ty Herndon to Billy Gilman to Cody Alan, we’ve seen that when industry figures tell their authentic stories, their fan bases grow == they don’t diminish,” said Zeke Stokes, VP of Programs at GLAAD. “We see superstar allies like Carrie Underwood, Dierks Bentley, and Little Big Town speaking out in support of inclusion and acceptance. This concert is a manifestation of what is already happening, and GLAAD is excited to partner with CMT to bring it to life during the festival.”
The concert follows a number of high-profile LGBTQ moments in the country music community as of late. CMT host Cody Alan came out publicly in late 2016 in People Magazine with the help of GLAAD, and received an outpouring of support and love from the country music community as well as his fans. Stars like Carrie Underwood, Toby Keith, and Dierks Bentley all voiced their support on social media. Event host Herndo -- a Grammy-nominated artist with album sales of more than 4 million -- was the first major male country music star to come out, sharing his story with the world in 2014.
“It’s important to ensure that young people wherever they may live across this country see a world that reflects their identities and hear a message of love and acceptance,” Stokes added. “These artists and the fans who are attending this concert are sending that message -- that you’re perfect just the way you are -- to LGBTQ youth, and that message will travel far and wide and impact lives in ways we will never know.”
The 2017 Concert for Love and Acceptance occurs during the legendary CMA Music Festival, running from June 8-11 in Nashville.
