Luke Bryan may be the king of hip-shaking country tunes, but he brought out his more vulnerable side for his 2017 Academy of Country Music Awards performance Sunday night (April 2).

On top of serving as the show's co-host -- for the fifth year in a row -- and opening the show with a performance of his hit "Move" as well as a tribute to Chuck Berry, Bryan performed his Kill the Lights ballad "Fast." And in line with the pace of the song, Bryan ditched his typical hyped up performance for a more somber delivery under a sea of hanging light bulbs.

Bryan won the ACMs' biggest award, entertainer of the year, in 2013 and 2015, earning another nomination again for 2017. Between two rousing performances and his "Fast" crooning at this year's awards, Bryan did a pretty great job at owning that title.

Watch a clip of Bryan's glowing "Fast" performance below.
