Chris Stapleton’s remarkable career trajectory -- from Nashville songwriting insider to household name practically overnight -- has resulted in plenty of time on the road. But he’s not just using these gigs to regurgitate songs from his Traveller album: while warming up with his band, Stapleton appears to have come up with a new song titled “Hard Living.”

Chris Stapleton Already Has 2015's Fourth-Biggest-Selling Country Album

“We try to have extended soundchecks,” Stapleton told Rolling Stone Country. “[We] take a couple hours, where the first 45 minutes is actually soundchecking, and the back half is working on new songs, or we goof around and jam for an hour.” “We are huge Freddie King fans,” the singer/songwriter continued. “Not that anyone could be him, but we'll get in a blues jam and try to channel some of that.”

“Hard Living” channels a nostalgic ‘70s sound and allows Stapleton to demonstrate his vocal range with a quick “whoop!” Watch a live performance of the tune below; apparently the singer has been trying it out on tour since April.
