Jake Owen throws down the gauntlet immediately in a new clip that he shared this week: “I’m about to let y’all in on some craziness!” He then proceeds to rap-sing about miniature golf. Fans may be shocked to hear the extent of his devotion to the sport: “I got my band on my left and my boys on my right/ I might skip this show and just play all night.”

This is not the first time Owen has dabbled in rap. On his hit single “Beachin,” he delivered come-ons in a catatonic flow: “Well she looks back, she throws me a kiss like, honey, I sure want ya/ It’s 103 between me and her and only 92 in Daytona.” But “Putt Puttin’” may mark the first time that Owen has devoted his rhymes to golf.

Jake Owen Gets Ready for Summer

All this “Putt Puttin’” has not prevented Owen from completing an album: American Love is due out at the end of next month. Last year, he released the excellent “Real Life,” which was written by a wrecking crew -- Shane McAnally, Josh Osborne, Ashley Gorley, and Ross Copperman -- and sounded like a mid-'90s Weezer single made in Nashville.

However, the song peaked at No. 17 on the Country Airplay chart, and it will not be included on American Love. Owen subsequently released “American Country Love Song” as the record's new lead single. That track is at No. 14 on the most recent Country Airplay chart. Watch “Putt Puttin’” below.
