Dixie Chicks on Orlando Massacre: 'We Cannot Let the Hatred and the Anger Win Out'
The Dixie Chicks’ DCX MMXVI tour touched down in New York City Monday night. Before performing a cover of Ben Harper’s “Better Way,” the country trio took a moment to address the recent massacre in Orlando. “A real asshole did something real bad this week and made us not ready to make nice,” Natalie Maines said, according to Rolling Stone. “We cannot let the hatred and the anger win out. We gotta put positivity out there in the universe.” The group played “Better Way” in front of a backdrop that depicted a rainbow heart.
“Our hearts and thoughts go out to the friends and families who have lost their loved ones to violence in Orlando this week,” the group tweeted on Sunday. “It’s so important during these times to stay united as people against this misguided hatred. #Peaceandlovepeaceandlove.”
