CODE Guest Playlist: Monstercat

Billboard CODE featured forward-thinking independent dance label Monstercat this week and handed off the Guest Playlist reins to CEO and founder Mike Darlington. He provided five key Monstercat tracks alongside insightful commentary into each one’s importance for the Vancouver-based imprint.

Pegboard Nerds - "Hero"

“Not only was this a great track from The Nerds, we had an opportunity to team up with Corridor Digital in an amazing music video. It features Superman saving his city while wearing a GoPro camera the whole time. The entire thing went viral and we couldn’t be more proud of it.

Aero Chord - "Surface"

“This was Alex’s [Aero Chord] first single with us after doing a remix for a fellow Monstercat artist Televisor a few months before. Although we knew ‘Surface’ had immense potential, we can’t help but be humbled by the support from guys like Skrillex, Diplo, Dirtyphonics, Bro Safari, DJ Snake, Krewella and others. I think it just goes to show how hard we work in A&R to focus on quality of music rather than recognition of artist names, because quality will always win in the end. The entire Monstercat family couldn’t be happier to have a guy like Aero Chord as part of the team.”

Noisestorm - "Breakdown VIP"

“So the cool thing about this track is that we put this VIP version out exactly two years after the original. Eoin O’Broin [Noisestorm] has been with us since the beginning days of Monstercat. This Ireland native is just so immensely talented on so many levels and we couldn’t be luckier to have him!”

SCNDL - "The Munsta"

“We are big fans of the Melbourne Bounce sound and we had been looking for to find some truly talented artists in that realm. We finally found SCNDL with ‘The Munsta’ and it was the perfect for Monstercat to enter the Bounce world. That’s what I’m talking ‘bout!”

Haywyre - "Dichotomy"

“It’s almost scary how creative Martin is in his music. Dichotomy is such a perfect example of the duality he can exhibit in a song that few can match. And in fact, this entire LP, Two Fold Pt. 1 was much of the same wow factor. I think each of every dance music fan would be hard pressed not to enjoy this album from beginning to end. There is so much promise for Haywyre, he is a huge inspiration to our entire family at Monstercat."
