Mr. Scruff Talks New 'Friendly Bacteria' Album and Staying Out of the Box

Floating Points, "King Bromeliad"

The very talented Sam Shepherd treats us to a sturdy, bouncy wriggler. You know the routine by now, a steady intro, long, gentle drop and then back into the groove with sunglasses on.

Max Graef, "No. 5'

Young Max has knack for coming up with a fresh take on familiar sounds and ideas. This tune sounds like Pepe Bradock's "Burning" given a good, bumpy, offbeat rub down by Kenny Dope, and then passed to Andres for a final rinse. Ace!

Tall Black Guy, "Sade's Taboo"

Currently residing in Norwich, but originally from Detroit, Tall Black Guy makes floaty, solid, head-nodding hip-hop. Sort of like the best of vintage Spinna's spacey synth workouts, with a futuristic twist. Solid, rugged and soulful.

Fatima, "Ridin Round (Sky High)"

Every time a new Fatima release comes along, it makes me very happy. This tune is from her forthcoming album, which promises to be one of the best releases of 2014.
