Kaskade to Release Long-Awaited 'Freaks of Nature' Tour DVD: First Look
The film will feature footage from historic 2012 Staples Center gig.
Kaskade is currently preparing to embark on the “It’s You, It’s Me” Redux Tour (revealed last month here on CODE), during which the superstar DJ/producer will play the small, barebones nightclubs where he got his start a decade ago. But thanks to a new DVD release, he’ll also celebrate how far he’s come since.
On May 14, Ultra Music will release the “Freaks of Nature” TourDVD, featuring footage from Kaskade’s historic July 27, 2012 date at Los Angeles’ Staples Center. The sold-out show made him the first DJ to headline that venue, and put a bow on what was already the only successful national stadium tour undertaken by a solo “EDM” artist. Check out the preview below, premiering exclusively on CODE:
The Staples Center gig, one of over 40 on the tour, featured Kaskade at his biggest and boldest, both musically and visually. The DJ expertly combined some of his most-loved vocals—ranging from older cuts like “Be Still” to the more current “Fire In Your New Shoes”—with thunderous electro beats ripped straight from the top of the EDM charts. The mash-ups gave new life to Kaskade’s notoriously elegant vocals, adding unexpected turns to the set while making it truly stadium-ready.
In addition, the show featured a DJ booth that was itself an LED screen, with another screen behind the booth and two more massive displays flanking the stage. The stunning visuals—a nighttime cityscape to accompany “Raining,” a glittering meteor shower with “Stars Align/Troll”—evolved to complement each song, and were enhanced by vivid lasers, bursts of confetti and massive balloons dropped into the crowd.
The film successfully captures the energy and intensity of Kaskade’s milestone Staples Center gig, but also offers a look behind all of the lights and lasers; the DVD also includes never-before-seen backstage footage from the Los Angeles show, and other stops. In advance of the May 14 release, fans can pre-order the DVD on Amazon, with a digital version available for iTunes pre-order on April 30.
