“Old Town Road” leads “Bad Guy” in lyrics usages & searches so far in summer 2019.
What will be 2019’s song of the summer? It’s still too early to tell (Labor Day, the official close of the summer chart season, is more than a month away), though Billboard has begun to track its progress with the Songs of the Summer chart each week. But LyricFind, which partners with Billboard to track lyric searches and usages both domestically and globally, has an idea of what song it might be, especially on a global level -- and it probably won’t surprise you.
Since the beginning of May 2019, LyricFind reports that the No. 1 song in trending lyric usages and searches globally is Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road,” featuring Billy Ray Cyrus.
Followers of the Billboard charts are unlikely to bat an eye; in addition to breaking the record for the most weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in its history on the Aug. 3-dated tally, “Old Town Road” has also crowned the Songs of the Summer chart since it kicked off for 2019 via Billboard’s June 8-dated rankings.
