Taylor Swift Returns to Social 50 Chart After 4/26 Teases, The Boyz Debut

Plus, Halsey reaches a new peak, rising to No. 2.

Taylor Swift re-enters Billboard’s Social 50 chart dated April 27, thanks to a mysterious series of tweets promoting the date April 26.

The Social 50 is powered by data tracked by music analytics company Next Big Sound and ranks the most popular artists on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Wikipedia and Tumblr. The chart's methodology blends weekly additions of friends/fans/followers with artist page views and engagement. The chart's latest tracking week ended April 18.

Swift re-enters the list at No. 16, just her fourth appearance on the Social 50 in 2019, and first time in the top 20 since October 2018, thanks to 265,000 Twitter mentions and 232,000 reactions, according to Next Big Sound.

Normally quiet on social media, Swift has been posting various photos with no context since April 13, adding the caption “4.26” to each. The countdown naturally led to much speculative chatter from Swift’s fans about the pop star’s upcoming plans.

Meanwhile, a week after returning to the Social 50’s top 10 for the first time since August 2018, Halsey reaches a new peak on the tally, blasting 9-2.

After initially re-entering the chart thanks to buzz about her then-upcoming collaboration with BTS, Halsey climbs an additional 387% in Twitter reactions (1.1 million total) and 207% in Twitter mentions (3.6 million) following the official release of “Boy With Luv” on April 12.

“The chorus is soooo addicting!” she tweeted April 12. “It was stuck in my head for weeks after I left the studio!”

Halsey’s second on the Social 50 only to her “Boy With Luv” partners in BTS. The group spends its 123rd week in all atop the list.

In other K-pop boyband news, The Boyz make their Social 50 debut at No. 49.

Formed in 2017, the 12-member group bows following 135,000 Twitter reactions, up 165%, after beginning the rollout for its upcoming single album, Bloom Bloom, on social media.

The album, The Boyz’s first since the November 2018 release of EP The Only, is due April 29, and the band’s Social 50 debut marks its first appearance on a Billboard chart.
