Maren Morris' 'Girl' Enters at No. 1 On Top Country Albums Chart With Record Debut-Week Streams

'I am blown away by the support,' Morris says.

Maren Morris' second studio LP Girl, released March 8, flies in at No. 1 on Billboard's Top Country Albums chart dated March 23. In its first week, ending March 14, the set earned 46,000 equivalent album units (25,000 in traditional album sales), according to Nielsen Music.

On the all-genre Billboard 200, Girl, released on Columbia Nashville/Sony Music Nashville, starts at No. 4, marking Morris' second top 10 and highest career rank.

Girl marks the first No. 1 debut by a woman on Top Country Albums of 2019 and the first since Carrie Underwood's Cry Pretty arrived atop the survey dated Sept. 29, 2018, with 266,000 units.

With Girl, Morris notches the largest debut-week streaming sum for a country album by a female artist: 23.96 million on-demand audio streams earned for its songs in its premiere frame. She surpasses the previous best debut-week total for a country set by a woman, as Underwood's Cry Pretty generated 14.44 million on-demand audio streams for it songs (Sept. 29, 2018).

"I am blown away by the support this last week," Morris tells Billboard. "My fans were already screaming the lyrics at the show the day after the album came out. I am so shocked and thankful to have broken this record for country music."

Girl also logs the largest streaming week for a studio country album by a woman, and the largest opening streaming week for any country album in 2019.

For the 28-year-old Morris, from Arlington, Texas, Girl is her second full-length to open at the Top Country Albums summit. Her first major-label LP, Hero, began in the penthouse, and at No. 5 on the Billboard 200, on June 25, 2016 (45,000 units; 37,000 sold). Girl is Morris' third entry on Top Country Albums. Her self-titled EP entered at No. 27 in November 2015 and peaked at No. 22 the following April.

Morris, who is nominated for female vocalist of the year at the 54th annual Academy of Country Music Awards (on which she'll also perform) April 7 in Las Vegas, co-wrote all 14 songs on Girl, which was produced by busbee and Greg Kurstin.
