Ariana Grande Rules Midweek U.K. Charts

Ariana Grande is facing a “Giant” challenge to her chart crown in the U.K.

Grande once again completes the 1-2 on the Official U.K. Singles Chart Update, with current chart-leader “Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I’m Bored” (Republic Records) outpacing her other hit “7 Rings” by a slim margin. According to charts compiler the OCC, just 275 combined units separate the two singles.

Calvin Harris and Rag’n’Bone Man’s “Giant” (Columbia) is eyeing a new peak of No. 3 after the British pair’s performance last Friday on The Graham Norton Show. Some 2,700 combined sales split “Giant” from the top spot, and with the pair set to perform at the Brit Awards on Thursday, the track could make a late charge.

Cardi B and Bruno Mars latest collaboration “Please Me” (Atlantic) is on track to nab the highest new entry on the Official U.K. Singles Chart. It’s at No. 11 on the midweek survey, one place ahead of Grande’s Thank U, Next album track “Bloodline.”

Grand’e new LP opened at the top the U.K. chart last week, her third album to do so, and recorded her best-ever opening week with 65,000 combined units. Thank U, Next is on pace to secure a second week at No. 1, and it claims top spot on the Official Albums Chart Update. Finally, Avril Lavigne's sixth and latest album Head Above Water (BMG) makes a splash at No. 5 on the midweek sales flash.

The Official U.K. Charts are published late Friday, local time.
