Red Velvet Returns to Top 10 & EXID Debuts on Social 50 Chart

Red Velvet's "Really Bad Boy"

Red Velvet reaches the Social 50’s top 10 for the first time since August.

Red Velvet zooms back to the top 10 of Billboard’s Social 50 chart (dated Dec. 8) for the first time since August, blasting 48-8 amid promo for RBB, the K-pop girl group’s eighth EP, which was released Nov. 30.

The Social 50 is powered by data tracked by music analytics company Next Big Sound and ranks the most popular artists on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Wikipedia and Tumblr. The chart's methodology blends weekly additions of friends/fans/followers along with artist page views and engagement. The chart’s latest tracking week ended Nov. 29.

Red Velvet jumps to No. 8 with, among other social growth, 408,000 Twitter reactions in the week ending Nov. 29 (up 485 percent), according to Next Big Sound. The five-piece added 27,000 new YouTube subscribers, 26,000 new Twitter followers and 11,000 new Facebook page likes.

The group posted multiple promotional photos for RBB to its Twitter account, along with teasers for the album’s spooky lead music video, “RBB (Really Bad Boy).”

Red Velvet is poised to potentially debut on the Billboard 200 with the upcoming Dec. 15-dated list, which would mark the group’s first appearance on the chart. It does, however, have four No. 1s on the World Albums chart to its name, most recently Perfect Velvet in December 2017.

Another K-pop group, meanwhile, makes its chart debut. At No. 44, fellow five-member girl group EXID debuts thanks to a total of 111,000 new YouTube subscriptions to its official page, driven by the release of a video for “I Love You” on Nov. 21.

EXID added 23,000 Twitter mentions in the tracking week and also saw 28,000 visits to its Wikipedia page, up 152 percent from the previous week.

“You” became EXID’s best-charting song on World Digital Song Sales on the Dec. 1-dated chart, entering at No. 5 with 1,000 downloads sold in the week ending Nov. 22, according to Nielsen Music.

Though it just made the Social 50 for the first time, EXID is no newcomer to music, debuting as a group in 2012. It has one full-length album, Street, to its name, plus four EPS, including most recently Full Moon in November 2017.
