LSD's 'Thunderclouds' Rules Top TV Commercials Chart for September 2018
Plus, The Rolling Stones & Canned Heat debut on the ranking with classic hits.
Labrinth, Sia and Diplo’s collaborative project LSD rules Billboard and Clio’s Top TV Commercials chart for September 2018, and for the second consecutive month, thanks to their single “Thunderclouds.” The track holds at No. 1 thanks to its appearance in Samsung Galaxy Note9’s “Powerful S Pen” ad.
Using tagging data from Shazam, as well as sales and streaming information tracked by Nielsen Music, Billboard partners with Clio Music each month to present a chart ranking the top songs in commercials. Rankings exclude any song that has recently charted within the top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100 or top 10 on a genre chart.
“Thunderclouds” retains its No. 1 ranking thanks to 37,000 downloads sold and 27.3 million U.S. on-demand streams, according to Nielsen Music.
The success of the commercial helped the track reach No. 67 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart (dated Sept. 29).
Meanwhile, The Rolling Stones’ 1967 hit “She’s a Rainbow” debuts at No. 4 on the Top TV Commercials thanks to its appearance in Acura 2019 RDX’s “JOY” commercial. The song logged 21,000 downloads and 1.6 million on-demand streams in September.
The track, which appeared on the Stones’ sixth LP Their Satanic Majesties Request, reached No. 25 on the Hot 100 in January 1968.
Plus, Canned Heat debuts on the Top TV Commercials chart with their 1970 hit “Let’s Work Together,” after its appearance in Amazon’s “A Big Collection of Small” ad. The song collected 3,000 downloads and 200,000 on-demand streams.
The classic song reached No. 26 on the Hot 100 in November 1970.
