Hot 100 Chart Moves: Machine Gun Kelly's Eminem Diss Track 'Rap Devil' Debuts
At No. 13, MGK earns his second-highest-charting Hot 100 hit. Plus, 5SOS and Imagine Dragons approach the top 10 and Marshmello and Bastille hit the top 40.
"Rap Devil" logged 23.5 million U.S. streams and sold 36,000 downloads in the week ending Sept. 13, according to Nielsen Music, following its Sept. 8 release. The track concurrently opens at No. 1 on the Digital Song Sales chart, marking MGK's first leader on the list, and No. 13 on Streaming Songs.
The track is MGK's first solo-billed Hot 100 entry and fifth overall. He makes his highest debut with the song, which launches as his second-highest-charting Hot 100 hit, after his Camila Cabello collaboration "Bad Things," which rose to No. 4 in 2017.
MGK's other Hot 100 entries: "Wild Boy," featuring Waka Flocka Flame (No. 98 peak in January 2012); "At My Best," featuring Hailee Steinfeld (No. 60, May 2017); and "Home," with X Ambassadors and Bebe Rexha (No. 90, December 2017).
Notably, Eminem released his response track to "Rap Devil," "Killshot," Friday, Sept. 14.
As previously reported, Drake makes history atop the Sept. 22-dated Hot 100, leading for a 10th week with "In My Feelings." As he reigned earlier this year for 11 weeks with "God's Plan" and for eight frames with "Nice for What," Drake's 29 weeks at No. 1 are the most for any artist in a year in the Hot 100's history, passing Usher's 28 weeks on top in 2004.
Who else makes notable (if not quite that historic) Hot 100 chart moves this week?
"Youngblood," 5 Seconds of Summer
The track moves to the doorstep of the Hot 100's top 10, up from No. 13 to No. 11 (a new career-best rank for the band). The song claims the Hot 100's top Airplay Gainer award for a second consecutive week, as it rises 8-7 on the Radio Songs chart, up 14 percent to 71.8 million airplay audience impressions in the week ending Sept. 16.
"Youngblood" also bumps 6-5 on the Pop Songs airplay chart, where it becomes 5SOS' first top five hit.
"Natural," Imagine Dragons
Also making a push for the Hot 100's top 10, "Natural" lifts 20-15. The track, the band's eighth top 15 Hot 100 hit, ascends 4-2 on Digital Song Sales (923,000, down 12 percent), 23-18 on Radio Songs (46.9 million, up 16 percent) and 48-33 on Streaming Songs (12.8 million, up 4 percent).
"Natural" leads the Hot Rock Songs chart for a fifth week and the Alternative Songs airplay chart for a third frame.
"Happier," Marshmello & Bastille
The song enters the Hot 100's top 40, climbing 46-35 and gaining in all metrics. It zooms 42-17 on Digital Song Sales (11,000, up 44 percent) and debuts at No. 38 on Streaming Songs (11.5 million, up 10 percent) and No. 50 on Radio Songs (21.3 million, up 30 percent).
Marshmello adds his fifth top 40 Hot 100 hit (all since November 2017), while Bastille notches its second and first in nearly five years; the band broke through with "Pompeii," which hit No. 5 in March 2014.
