Lovelytheband Leaps to Emerging Artists Top Five, Red Velvet Hits Top 10
Plus, Lauv returns for a seventh week on top.
Los Angeles trio Lovelytheband lifts 10-4 on Billboard's Emerging Artists chart (dated Aug. 18), reaching the top five for the first time. Powering the rise, the act's debut LP Finding It Hard to Smile opens at No. 12 on Alternative Albums and No. 168 on the Billboard 200 with 5,000 equivalent album units earned in the week ending Aug. 9, according to Nielsen Music.
The group's jump is also aided by its breakout single "Broken," which ranks at No. 5 on Alternative Songs after spending nine weeks at No. 1 beginning in April. It continues to cross over to top 40 radio, debuting at No. 36 on the Pop Songs airplay chart, while pushing 14-13 on Adult Pop Songs.
The Emerging Artists chart ranks the most popular developing artists of the week, using the same formula as the all-encompassing Billboard Artist 100, which measures artist activity across multiple Billboard charts, including the Billboard Hot 100, Billboard 200 and the Social 50. (The Artist 100 lists the most popular acts, overall, each week.) However, the Emerging Artists chart excludes acts that have notched a top 25 entry on either the Hot 100 or Billboard 200, as well as artists that have achieved two or more top 10s on Billboard's "Hot" song genre charts and/or consumption-based "Top" album genre rankings.
Atop Emerging Artists, Lauv rebounds from No. 3 for a seventh total week at No. 1. The pop singer-songwriter's breakthrough single "I Like Me Better" hit No. 29 on the Hot 100 in July and logs a 26th week on the tally this week.
Rounding out the Emerging Artists chart's top five, Louis Tomlinson rises 4-2, Queen Naija dips to No. 3 after two nonconsecutive weeks at No. 1 and Billie Eilish holds at No. 5.
Plus, K-pop girl group Red Velvet vaults 21-6 on Emerging Artists, entering the top 10 for the first time, as the group's new EP Summer Magic: Summer Mini Album arrives at No. 3 on World Albums with 2,000 copies sold. The set also starts at No. 3 on Heatseekers Albums. The group, consisting of Irene, Seulgi, Wendy, Joy and Yeri, concurrently bounds to a new high (10-3) on the Social 50 chart.
