Following the death of XXXTentacion (born Jahseh Onfroy), who was shot and killed in Florida on Monday (June 18) at the age of 20, Billboard reflects on the controversial rapper’s short history on our charts.
In a little more than a year, XXXTentacion tallied 16 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart and three albums on the Billboard 200 -- including the No. 1 album, ?, earlier this year. His rapid success however, overlapped with a web of legal issues. At the time of his death, the 20-year-old was awaiting trial on more than a dozen felony charges and allegations of domestic violence against his then-pregnant girlfriend.
XXXTentacion earned his first Billboard chart appearances on the lists dated Feb. 25, 2017, when his breakout single “Look at Me!” debuted on, among other charts, the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 95. The song, which originally became popular on SoundCloud before it expanded to other digital and streaming distributors, became his first top 40 success, peaking at No. 34. “Look” was the first of 16 Hot 100 hits for the rapper during his lifetime; six of those entries landed in the top 40, including one top 10 hit, “Sad,” which peaked at No. 7 in March.
