Songs of the Summer Chart Returns to, Led by Drake's 'Nice For What'

The annual summery summary is back, as the race officially begins for the top summer song of 2018.

What will be the No. 1 song of the summer of 2018? We can officially begin making our way toward the answer, as Billboard's annual Songs of the Summer chart returns to

The 20-position Songs of the Summer running tally tracks the most popular titles based on cumulative performance on the weekly streaming, airplay and sales-based Billboard Hot 100 chart from Memorial Day through Labor Day (this year encompassing charts dated June 9 through Sept. 8). At the end of the season, the top song of the summer will be revealed.

Drake's "Nice For What," the Hot 100's current leader, ranks at No. 1 on 2018's first Songs of the Summer chart (dated June 9), followed by Post Malone's "Psycho," featuring Ty Dolla $ign (No. 2); Drake's "God's Plan" (No. 3); Childish Gambino's "This Is America" (No. 4); and Zedd, Maren Morris and Grey's "The Middle" (No. 5).

In 2017, Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee's largely-Spanish-language smash "Despacito," featuring Justin Bieber, wore the crown for the No. 1 song of the summer. Drake's dancehall-tinged "One Dance," featuring WizKid and Kyla, reigned as the 2016 champ, while OMI's reggae/pop hit "Cheerleader" took top honors for 2015.

The previous top songs of the summer this decade: Iggy Azalea's "Fancy," featuring Charli XCX (2014); Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines," featuring T.I. and Pharrell Williams (2013); Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe" (2012); LMFAO's "Party Rock Anthem," featuring Lauren Bennett and GoonRock (2011); and, fittingly, Katy Perry's beach-centric "California Gurls," featuring Snoop Dogg (2010).
