The original Broadway cast recording of Mean Girls takes a bow at No. 1 on the Cast Albums chart (dated June 2) and at No. 42 on the all-genre Billboard 200. On the latter list, Mean Girls logs the highest debut for a cast album in over a year.
Mean Girls launches with 14,000 equivalent album units earned in the week ending May 24, according to Nielsen Music. Of that sum, 10,000 were in traditional album sales. The last cast recording to debut higher on the Billboard 200 was Dear Evan Hansen, which started at No. 8 on the Feb. 25, 2017-dated list.
The Billboard 200 chart ranks the week’s most popular albums based on their overall consumption. That overall unit figure combines pure album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA).
