Childish Gambino's 'This Is America' Spurs Gains for 'Awaken, My Love!' & 'Because the Internet' Albums
His previous effort, 2016’s “Awaken, My Love!,” could re-enter the Billboard 200 (dated May 19) within the top 100 with perhaps 5,000 to 7,000 equivalent album units earned in the week ending May 10, according to industry forecasters. In the week ending May 3, the set tallied just under 5,000 units, according to Nielsen Music.
Meanwhile, Childish Gambino’s 2013 effort, Because the Internet, may earn between 4,000 to 6,000 units -- up from a little under 4,000 earned in the week previous.
The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week based on multi-metric consumption, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). The top 10 of the May 19-dated Billboard 200 chart is scheduled to be revealed on Billboard’s websites on Sunday, May 13.
“Awaken, My Love!” debuted and peaked at No. 4 on the Dec. 24, 2016-dated chart, while Because the Internet topped out at No. 7 in its opening frame (Dec. 28, 2013). They have earned 796,000 and 1.32 million equivalent album units, respectively.
