Crystal Waters and Sted-E & Hybrid Heights Hit No. 1 on Dance Club Songs
"'I Am House' came to me when I posted a pic of myself wearing a t-shirt that said 'I AM HOUSE,'" Waters tells Billboard.
Crystal Waters, joined by DJ duo Sted-E (Edward Alcivar) and Hybrid Heights (Carlos Rosillo), finds a home atop Billboard's Dance Club Songs chart (dated April 21), as "I Am House" becomes her 12th leader (2-1). The track was remixed by Masters at Work, Kidzblock, and Jacob Colon, among many others.
Waters topped the chart with her first entry, "Gypsy Woman (She's Homeless)," in 1991, and has now waded to the summit with her last five consecutive charted titles.
"House" also joins "Synergy" (November 2015) and "Believe" (November 2016) as Sted-E and Hybrid Heights' third No. 1, all in collaboration with Waters.
Waters tells Billboard, "'I Am House' came to me when I posted a pic of myself wearing a t-shirt that said 'I AM HOUSE.' It got such a great response with comments about love and devotion to house music that I said to myself. 'I'm going to write a song dedicated to people who love house music.'"
"I'd been working with Edward and Carlos for awhile now and they had sent me this cool, dark house track," Waters continues. "The lyrics and melody gelled right away. I had planned to use it as the title track of my album, but Kenny 'Dope' [Gonzales, of the Masters at Work production team] came to a party that [Sted-E, Hybrid Heights and I] were throwing. Kenny heard me sing it, and said right away he wanted the track.
"As we were getting closer to the release, I was worried that he wasn't going to do a remix, but just before the release date, I got a call surprising me with the Masters at Work mix that was on fire! I couldn't believe it. I was in heaven."
