Rich the Kid Hits No. 1 on Emerging Artists Chart
Plus, Lauv surges 16-4 & I'm With Her debuts at No. 5.
The rapper tops the chart on the strength of his singles "New Freezer," featuring Kendrick Lamar, which jumps 53-46 on the Billboard Hot 100, and "Plug Walk," which stands at No. 69. On the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, the tracks place at Nos. 22 and 32, respectively.
"Freezer" drew 15 million airplay audience impressions (up 28 percent), 12.7 million U.S. streams (up 4 percent) and 5,000 downloads sold (up 11 percent) in the tracking week, according to Nielsen Music.
The Emerging Artists chart uses the same formula as the all-encompassing Billboard Artist 100, which measures artist activity across multiple Billboard charts, including the Hot 100, Billboard 200 and the Social 50. However, the Emerging Artists chart excludes acts that have notched a top 25 entry on either the Hot 100 or Billboard 200, as well as artists who have achieved two or more top 10s on Billboard's "Hot" song genre charts and/or consumption-based "Top" album genre rankings.
Rich the Kid succeeds three-week Emerging Artists leader MAX, who graduates from the chart thanks to his single "Lights Down Low," featuring gnash, which enters the top 25 of the Hot 100 (27-20).
The coronation is also notable for Rich the Kid as he becomes the first rapper to hit No. 1 on the tally since Lil Pump on the Oct. 21-dated chart.
Meanwhile, I'm With Her debuts at No. 5 on Emerging Artists, as See You Around, the first collaborative set from the trio of singer-songwriters Sara Watkins, Sarah Jarosz and Aoife O'Donovan, arrives at No. 5 on Americana/Folk Albums and No. 8 on Top Rock Albums with 8,000 equivalent album units.
Rounding out the Emerging Artists top five, country acts Walker Hayes and Devin Dawson lift a spot each to Nos. 2 and 3, respectively, and pop singer-songwriter Lauv vaults 16-4, entering the top 10 for the first time thanks to his first Hot 100 entry as an artist,"I Like Me Better," which pushes 96-90 on the chart. He previously co-wrote and co-produced Cheat Codes' "No Promises," featuring Demi Lovato, which hit No. 38 on the Hot 100 in October.
