Grammy Awards Spur 328 Percent Sales Gain for Kesha, Luis Fonsi, Logic & More

The 2018 Grammy Awards spurred immediate sales gains for the songs performed on CBS’ Jan. 28 broadcast, according to Nielsen Music. The tracks performed on the show collectively earned a 328 percent gain in download sales in the United States on the day of the show, according to initial sales reports to Nielsen Music. Combined, the songs performed on the awards (as well as the original versions of songs covered) sold 74,000 downloads on Jan. 28 -- up from just 17,000 on the previous day.

Among the biggest gainers: Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s “Despacito,” which grew from 3,000 to 10,000 sold (up 263 percent). Those figures include the popular remix version featuring Justin Bieber. The song -- which garnered a performance slot on the broadcast (sans Bieber) and was nominated for both record and song of the year -- was the biggest-selling tune performed on the Grammy Awards.

Little Big Town’s Grammy Award-winning “Better Man” zipped from less than 1,000 sold to 7,000 sold (up 2,166 percent) following its performance. Childish Gambino’s “Terrified” and P!nk’s “Wild Hearts Can’t Be Broken” both went from negligible sales to 4,000 and 5,000 sold, respectively.

Other significant gainers include Kesha’s “Praying,” which zoomed 720 percent, rising from 1,000 to 9,000; and Logic’s “1-800-273-8355,” featuring Alessia Cara and Khalid (all three of whom performed the song on the Grammy stage), as it grew 436 percent, climbing from 1,000 to 5,000 sold.

News on streaming gains for the performed songs will likely be announced on Jan. 30.
