The track was released when the Billboard Hot 100 was less than a year old, but it reached No. 11 on the chart dated July 6, 1959 and No. 3 on the Hot R&B Sides chart (now called the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart).
Elsewhere on the Top TV Songs chart, 21-year-old singer-songwriter Lewis Capaldi debuts at No. 3 with “Bruises,” thanks to its appearance in The CW’s Riverdale. Thanks to the show, the song earned 7,000 Shazam tags, 3,000 downloads sold and 2.7 million U.S. streams in December.
The TV appearance also helped Capaldi to his Billboard chart debut, as the track entered the Hot Rock Songs chart at No. 47 on the chart dated Dec. 30.
Finally, new wave pioneers Talking Heads debut on the chart with their 1983 hit “This Must Be the Place (Naïve Melody),” after its appearance in ABC’s Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
The song originally peaked at No. 62 on the Hot 100, and tallied 16,000 Shazam tags, 2,000 downloads sold and 1.5 million U.S. streams in the month.
