The coronation ends the longest break between No. 1s for any act in the chart's history.
Three decades, three No. 1s on Billboard's Alternative Songs airplay chart for Beck, whose "Up All Night" jumps 3-1 on the Dec. 16-dated chart, earning him a comeback-related record in the process.
Beck's latest leader on the chart is his third in a career spanning back to the early 1990s. That's when "Loser," his first song to chart on Alternative Songs, as well as his maiden No. 1, reached the top for five weeks, beginning on Feb. 5, 1994.
It was 11 years and two months before Beck returned to the top spot, with "E-Pro" ruling for one week (April 2, 2005). At the time, it ended one of the longest dry spells at No. 1 in the chart's history, although it trailed Jane's Addiction's nearly 12-year, eight-month break between "Been Caught Stealing" (Dec. 8, 1990) and "Just Because" (Aug. 2, 2003).
