Ed Sheeran's 'Shape of You' is the Most Shazamed Song of 2017
Plus, “Despacito” finished at No. 2 and “Rockabye” lands at No. 3
Ed Sheeran’s former 12-week No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100, “Shape of You,” is the most Shazamed song of 2017, as the track logged over 15 million Shazams on the song-tagging app this year, according to data provided by Shazam.
Sheeran, who also earns the title as “Most Shazamed Artist of the Year,” succeeds Sia’s “Cheap Thrills,” which logged the most tags in 2016.
“In many ways ‘Shape of You’ defined 2017,” said Julian Marshall, Shazam’s Global Head of Content. “It spent fourteen weeks at the top of our Worldwide Chart after its release in January and it is still in our Top 40 today.”
Coming in at No. 2 on Shazam’s year-end ranking is Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s “Despacito,” featuring Justin Bieber. The explosive crossover hit spent 16 weeks at No. 1 on the Hot 100, tying the record for the longest reign with Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men’s “One Sweet Day,” and scored Billboard’s 2017 Song of Summer honors.
“This year will also be remembered for the rise of Latin music, led by ‘Despacito,’ Marshall said. “Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s track was already seeing a strong Shazam reaction before Justin Bieber jumped on the remix — bringing it to a new audience. In total, a Latin track was at the top of our Worldwide Chart for 24 weeks in 2017.”
Bieber also finished in the top 10 of last year’s year-end Shazam chart, as “Love Yourself” finished at No. 10. The Chainsmokers also earn their second consecutive year-end entry, as “Something Just Like This,” with Coldplay, finished at No. 8, while also landing the honors for most Shazamed dance song. Their 2016 track “Don’t Let Me Down,” featuring Daya, landed at No. 6.
Among the other year-end honorees, French Montana’s “Unforgettable,” featuring Swae Lee, earns the honors for most Shazamed hip-hop song, Imagine Dragons’ “Believer” is the most Shazamed rock song, Sam Hunt’s “Body Like A Back Road” is the most Shazamed country song, and The Weeknd’s “I Feel It Coming,” featuring Daft Punk, is the most tagged R&B/Soul song.
