Nicki Minaj Jumps Into Social 50 Chart Top 10, Bad Bunny Debuts
Also, Girls’ Generation makes its first chart appearance in over two years.
The Social 50 is powered by data tracked by music analytics company Next Big Sound and ranks the most popular artists on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Wikipedia and Tumblr. The chart's methodology blends weekly additions of friends/fans/followers along with artist page views and engagement. The chart’s latest tracking week ended Aug. 3
First, Minaj’s collaboration with Future, “You Da Baddest,” dropped July 28, with Minaj posting multiple snippets of the video to her Instagram. (The track concurrently debuts on the Billboard Hot 100 as its Hot Shot Debut, bowing at No. 38.)
But by the end of the tracking week (Aug. 3), she had moved on to shooting a music video for an upcoming track with Quavo, writing about the Migos member, “it was absolutely ALL WORTH IT! He’s a class act.” Further information about the song is not currently available.
An abundance of videos and photos on Instagram (including, amidst all the music video posts, a photo of Minaj receiving a plaque declaring her DJ Khaled collab “Do You Mind” platinum from Khaled’s son Asahd) helped Minaj gain 100 percent in reactions on the social media service in the week ending Aug. 3, accruing 21.6 million in all, according to Next Big Sound
Meanwhile, one act makes his Social 50 debut while another appears on the ranking for the first time in two years.
Latin trap artist Bad Bunny bows at No. 34, leaping 44 percent in Facebook fans and 38 percent in Instagram reactions. During the tracking frame, he wrapped up a tour in Peru and praised former Major League Baseball catcher Ivan Rodriguez, who was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame July 30. (Bad Bunny, like Rodriguez, is Puerto Rican.)
Bad Bunny has amassed eight entries on Hot Latin Songs in 2017 as a lead or featured artist, led by the No. 12 peak of Becky G's "Mayores" on which he is featured.
And at No. 45, Girls’ Generation returns to the chart for the first time since the list dated Aug. 8, 2015 (around the time of the release of the group’s previous album, Lion Heart). The K-pop group released Holiday Night, its ninth album (and sixth Korean-language effort), on Aug. 4, and in the Social 50 tracking week, the act teased the new LP as well as new concerts promoting the release. The group attained 335,000 Twitter reactions, up 408 percent.
