As Kendrick Lamar pulls a one-two punch to take over the No. 1 slots on both the Billboard 200, where his album DAMN. starts with the biggest weekly unit sum in nearly a year, and the Billboard Hot 100, where the LP’s lead single “Humble.” gives him his first chart topper as a lead artist, the double domination also brings up one more achievement for the rapper this week: He’s now the 23rd act since 2000 to have led both lists simultaneously.

Madonna inaugurated the club this century, when her “Music” single and the album of the same name ruled the Hot 100 and Billboard 200, respectively, on Oct. 7, 2000. As was the case with “Music,” lead singles from albums often set the stage for the double whammy, logging extended runs atop the Hot 100. The buzz from a huge hit, naturally, lends itself toward a strong debut from the album upon its release. Of the 30 different songs to have been part of No. 1 song and album combinations, 20 have been lead singles.

Adele has most often reigned atop both lists this century, with four separate cases of having the No. 1 Hot 100 song and No. 1 Billboard 200 album at the same time. Her “Rolling in the Deep,” “Someone Like You” and “Set Fire to the Rain” all spent time at No. 1 alongside parent album 21, while “Hello” and 25 doubled up atop the lists in 2015-16.
