The Shins Earn First Alternative Albums No. 1 With 'Heartworms'
The set debuts at No. 1, surpassing the No. 2 bow & peak of 2012's "Port of Morrow."
Of the sum, 18,000 are pure album sales. Of that total, 2,000 are vinyl, slotting the record in at No. 2 on Vinyl Albums.
The James Mercer-led rockers previously reached No. 2 on Alternative Albums with prior LP Port of Morrow in 2012. (The chart did not yet exist when the band's prior record, 2007's Wincing the Night Away, was released.)
Heartworms starts at No. 2 on Top Rock Albums and No. 20 on the Billboard 200. On the latter list, The Shins score their third top 20 album, following Wincing (No. 2) and Port (No. 3). Their first entry, Chutes Too Narrow, hit No. 86 in 2003.
"Name for You," the new set's lead single, holds at its No. 2 peak, the band's best (tied with 2012's "Simple Song"), on the Adult Alternative Songs airplay chart. It also remains at its No. 30 peak on Alternative Songs.
