Big news! On this date 30 years ago, Huey Lewis & The News logged their third (and most recent) No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, "Jacob's Ladder." The song was written by Lewis' good friend Bruce Hornsby and Bruce's brother John (with Bruce Hornsby and the Range releasing their own version in 1988). Lewis & The News had previously led with "The Power of Love" in 1985 and "Stuck With You" in 1986.

A record week for Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men: Their "One Sweet Day" spent its 16th week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, wrapping the longest reign by any song in the chart's history. Seven hits are tied for second with 14 weeks at No. 1 apiece – including one each by Carey and Boyz II Men: her "We Belong Together" (2005) and their "I'll Make Love to You" (1994).
March 17, 1990
Randy Travis picked up in the '90s right where he left off in the '80s: at No. 1 on Hot Country Songs, as the pop-flavored "Hard Rock Bottom of Your Heart" hit the top, becoming his 11th of 16 career No. 1s.
March 18, 1967
The Beatles scored their first of three Billboard Hot 100 No. 1s in 1967, as "Penny Lane" strolled to the top. "All You Need Is Love" and "Hello Goodbye" would also reign before the end of the year, with all songs contributing to the Fab Four's record 20 career Hot 100 toppers.
March 19, 1988
Belinda Carlisle's Diane Warren-penned "I Get Weak" rose to its No. 2 Billboard Hot 100 peak. It marked Carlisle's third visit to the top two: as part of the Go-Go's, she reached No. 2 in in 1982 with "We Got the Beat," while in 1987 she topped the chart with her own "Heaven Is a Place on Earth." Carlisle has announced that she'll release a new solo album, Wilder Shores, in October.
