Half of Sheeran’s 16-song set debuts in the chart’s top 10.

Hours after the release of Ed Sheeran's third studio album ÷ (Divide) on Friday morning (March 3), eight songs from the set rocketed to the top 10 of the Billboard + Twitter Trending 140 chart.

The Billboard + Twitter Trending 140 chart measures the real-time acceleration of conversation around artists and their music on Twitter.

The eight songs -- “Perfect,” “Dive,” “Happier,” “Galway Girl,” “Supermarket Flowers,” “New Man,” “Eraser” and “What Do I Know?” (in that order) -- arrived on the chart in the wee hours of the morning, after the album became available through digital and streaming services. “Perfect” ruled the chart for the longest time (about five hours).

The album was a long time coming for the British singer/songwriter. His previous album x (Multiply) was released in June 2014. Sheeran announced ÷ on Jan. 12, six days after releasing the album’s lead singles “Shape of You,” which is No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for a fifth week, and “Castle on the Hill,” which debuted and peaked at No. 6 on the tally.
