Hot 100 Chart Moves: Marian Hill's 'Down' Is Up, Hey Violet Debuts & More
"Down" surges following the launch of its Apple ad synch. Plus, moves for Julia Michaels, Lauren Alaina & Calum Scott.
As previously reported, Migos' viral hit "Bad and Boujee," featuring Lil Uzi Vert, tops the Billboard Hot 100 (dated Feb. 11) for a third total week. Meanwhile, Alessia Cara collects her second top 10, as "Scars to Your Beautiful" ascends from No. 13 to No. 10.
Plus, Pandora radio streaming data is added to the data pool for the Hot 100 (and other charts that blend streaming, airplay and sales, including Hot Country Songs and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs). The Hot 100 and those charts also undergo a formula adjustment, as is regularly applied, to rebalance the ratio among streaming, airplay and sales, accounting for changes in music consumption patterns (e.g., continued increases in streaming and decreases in sales).
And … there's more! Here's a look at other notable news on the Hot 100 this week.
Marian Hill, "Down"
Following the Jan. 14 premiere of its Apple iPhone 7 + AirPods ad synch, Marian Hill's "Down" surges 99-52 on the Hot 100. On Digital Song Sales, it blasts 33-8 (34,000, up 53 percent, in the week ending Jan. 26, according to Nielsen Music). The track by the duo -- singer Samantha Gongol and producer Jeremy Lloyd -- also debuts on the Pop Songs (No. 36) and Alternative Songs (No. 37) airplay charts.
Hey Violet, "Guys My Age"
The Los Angeles pop-rock quartet makes its Hot 100 debut at No. 84, as the song bullets at No. 23 on Pop Songs. The group kicks off its first headlining North American tour March 7 in San Francisco.
Lauren Alaina, "Road Less Traveled"
The country singer, who placed second on American Idol in 2011, debuts at No. 86 with "Road Less Traveled." It's her second Hot 100 entry and first since her runner-up Idol single "Like My Mother Does" reached No. 20 in June 2011. The new song, which climbs 15-13 on Country Airplay (21 million in audience, up 8 percent), is the title cut from her sophomore album, released Jan. 27.
Julia Michaels, "Issues"
Michaels' debut single as an artist enters the Hot 100 at No. 87 with 4.1 million U.S. streams. Not that she's a newbie to the chart: She topped the Hot 100 for three weeks in 2016 as a co-writer of Justin Bieber's "Sorry" and co-wrote Selena Gomez's "Good for You" (featuring A$AP Rocky; No. 5, 2015) and "Hands to Myself" (No. 7, 2016).
Calum Scott, "Dancing on My Own"
Scott's ballad interpretation of Robyn's dance-pop classic debuts at No. 94 on the Hot 100. Radio is supporting the remake, as it bullets at No. 16 on Adult Contemporary, No. 28 on Adult Pop Songs and No. 35 on Pop Songs. The song from the British singer first became a hit globally, including logging a No. 2 peak last August on the Official UK Singles chart.
Robyn's original "Dancing" hit No. 3 on Dance Club Songs in 2010 and has since scored numerous synchs, including in HBO's Girls and Netflix's Orange Is the New Black.
