Barbra Streisand's 'Magic' Tour Wraps With $46 Million Earned
Barbra Streisand takes the No. 1 slot on Billboard’s latest Hot Tours recap (see list below) with $10.7 million in ticket sales earned at concerts in four U.S. markets during November and December. The sold out shows at arenas in Houston, Tampa, Ft. Lauderdale and Miami were the only fall dates on the legendary artist’s The Music… The Mem’ries… The Magic! Tour that hit nine North American cities during the summer in August.
The tour’s opening trek ran for three weeks ahead of her Aug. 26 album release Encore: Movie Partners Sing Broadway. With the fall concerts added to the overall counts, the final box office gross reached $46 million from 177,524 sold seats at 14 concerts in 13 cities.
Kicking off the fall stint was a performance at the Toyota Center in Houston on Nov. 27, the singer’s first-ever concert in the city. With 11,591 fans in attendance, box office revenue surpassed $3 million to rank as the venue’s highest-grossing concert in 2016, according to Billboard Boxscore. Streisand also performed for the first time ever in Tampa, the next stop on the schedule, playing to a crowd of 10,035 at Amalie Arena on Nov. 30. With $2.4 million in sales, the sold out show was also the Tampa venue’s top-grosser this year.
The largest box office take during the tour’s fall jaunt was $3.2 million at BB&T Center at Sunrise, Fla. on Dec. 3. With attendance logged at 12,262, the sold out concert had the arena’s fourth-highest attendance count this year behind Bruce Springsteen, Pearl Jam and Iron Maiden, but with ticket prices ranging from $99 to $510, Streisand topped all three of those acts as well as AC/DC to score the building’s top gross of the year.
The tour finale on Dec. 5 was held in Miami at American Airlines Arena with a packed house of 10,071. That show’s $2 million gross was tops among the tours that played a single performance at the venue, but Marc Anthony was the top earner with a two-night engagement that racked up $4.5 million in sales. The Latin pop star drew more than 37,000 fans to the Miami arena for sold out shows on Nov. 18 and 19.
Streisand’s best box office results during The Music… The Mem’ries… The Magic! Tour came at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center and Staples Center in Los Angeles, her two highest-grossing venues during the summertime trek. Barclays Center, the only two-show engagement, scored $8.8 million in sales from 29,250 sold seats on Aug. 11 and 13. It stands as the third highest-grossing engagement of the year among all concert artists at a U.S. arena, based on reported Boxscores. Only Adele scored more at the box office with her eight-show stint at Staples Center in August ($13.8 million) and a run of six shows at New York’s Madison Square Garden in September ($9.8 million).
$3.8 million was the top gross among the venues that hosted Streisand for a single night. Staples Center produced that total from 13,557 sold tickets at the tour opener on Aug. 1. The largest single-show attendance count was logged at Philadelphia’s Wells Fargo Center with 13,963 fans present on Aug. 20.
