Sam Phillips Scores 'Gilmore Girls' Gain on Rock Charts
"Reflecting Light" brings the veteran singer-songwriter her first chart appearance since 2008.
Sam Phillips' "Reflecting Light" appears on a Billboard chart for the first time, after appearing in the Netflix Gilmore Girls reboot, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, which premiered Nov. 25.
The ballad first soundtracked a dance between Luke (Scott Patterson) and Lorelai (Lauren Graham) in the original series, which concluded in 2007.
After it returned in the new version of the series (during a wedding montage featuring the two characters), it debuts on the Alternative Digital Song Sales and Rock Digital Song Sales charts at Nos. 11 and 15, respectively, with 4,000 downloads sold in the week ending Dec. 1 (up from a nominal amount the week before), according to Nielsen Music.
"Light" was originally released on Phillips' 2004 album A Boot and a Shoe (which hit No. 34 on Heatseekers Albums that May). Until the song's Gilmore Girls revival, the California singer-songwriter had last reached a Billboard chart in 2008. She made her chart debut back in 1989, with the No. 22 Alternative Songs hit "Holding on to the Earth."
