Notably, though “Welcome” marks Johnson’s first hit on the Hot 100, it’s not his first showing on a Billboard songs chart. He previously appeared, billed as The Rock, as a featured act on Wyclef Jean’s “It Doesn’t Matter,” which reached No. 25 on Hot Rap Songs in 2000.
As The Rock earns his warm “welcome” to the Hot 100, he joins many other accomplished actors and actresses — not already established as pop stars — who have recently premiered on the chart. Here are just a few of his Hot 100 co-stars:
Kristen Bell rang up a triple play of Hot 100 hits – “Love Is an Open Door,” with Santino Fontana (No. 49), “Do You Want to Build A Snowman?,” with Agatha Lee Monn and Katie Lopez (No. 51) and “For the First Time in Forever,” with Idina Menzel (No. 59) – all from the smash soundtrack to Disney’s Frozen. The animated film’s accompanying set also racked 13 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, and was the chart’s No. 1 album of 2014.
Jennifer Lawrence reached No. 12 on the Hot 100 in 2014 with “The Hanging Tree” by composer James Newton Howard. The Oscar winner provided vocals for the track that was added to the digital re-release of soundtrack for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay- Part 1, in which Lawrence starred.
Anna Kendrick took her leading role in the musical comedy Pitch Perfect to Hot 100 heights in 2013, racing to No. 6 with “Cups (Pitch Perfect’s When I’m Gone).” The tune also topped the Adult Contemporary songs chart. (While “Cups” gave Kendrick major exposure to mainstream pop audiences, it wasn’t the first time the artist had delighted fans with her singing voice: She earned a 1998 Tony Award nomination for her work in the Broadway musical High Society.)
Hailee Steinfeld, who first made waves with her Oscar-nominated performance in True Grit (and who will host and perform at Billboard's 2016 Women in Music celebration) has graced the Hot 100 twice. Her debut, “Love Myself,” climbed to No. 30 in October 2015. Her second entry, “Starving,” with Grey and featuring Zedd, did even better, currently sitting at its No. 12 high on the latest Hot 100.
