The hip-hop pioneers rule for the first time, powered by the chart-topping album "We Got It From Here...Thank You 4 Your Service." Plus, Leonard Cohen earns a posthumous top 10 ranking.
The Artist 100 measures artist activity across Billboard's most influential charts, including the Billboard Hot 100, Top Album Sales and the Social 50. The Artist 100 (which launched in July 2014) blends data measuring album and track sales, radio airplay, streaming and social media fan interaction to provide a weekly multi-dimensional ranking of artist popularity.
A Tribe Called Quest tops the Artist 100 fueled by its new album, We Got It From Here...Thank You 4 Your Service, which debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, with 135,000 equivalent album units, and the Top Album Sales chart (112,000 in traditional sales) in the week ending Nov. 17, according to Nielsen Music. Album sales account for 90 percent of the group's points on the chart. The act previously spent one week on the Artist 100, at No. 94 on the tally dated April 9, following the March 22 passing of founding member Phife Dawg.
