Post Malone & Justin Bieber's 'Deja Vu' Scores Hot Shot Debut on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs Chart
Post Malone earns the highest debut on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, arriving at No. 25 with “Deja Vu” featuring Justin Bieber (Oct. 1-dated list). It’s the third chart entry for Malone, who first appeared in 2015 with his breakout hit “White Iverson,” reaching No. 5 on the list (Jan 23, 2016 peak) and spending a week at No. 1 on the Rhythmic Songs chart (Jan. 2).
The new entrance marks Bieber’s 11th charting hit on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and second this year. He most recently spent one week at No. 48 as a featured artist on Chance the Rapper’s “Juke Jam” (also featuring Towkio), powered by the rapper’s streaming-only release of his album, Coloring Book (June 4 chart).
Released on Sept. 9, “Deja Vu” raked in 3.7 million U.S. streams in the week ending Sept. 15, with 45 percent stemming from Spotify plays. A music video has yet to be released.
The song sold 25,000 digital downloads, also contributing to its debut. The sales are enough for a No. 3 debut on the R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Songs chart. The track’s debut on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs is mostly driven by streams and sales – a minimal amount of airplay adds to its chart points as it has not yet been officially promoted to radio.
On Sept. 14, Malone embarked on his first headlining tour, the Monster Energy Outbreak Tour Presents Post Malone The Hollywood Dreams Tour. The 40-city North American tour closes on Nov. 9 in Los Angeles. Malone, who had an opening slot on Bieber’s Purpose tour, had previously announced that his debut album Stoney would be released on Aug. 26, but it has since been pushed back to an unknown date.
