Flume has bagged another title for his collection. The electronic music producer’s “Never Be Like You” was the most popular single Down Under in the first half of 2016, according to new data published by trade magazine The Music Network.

The Sydneysider’s stirring number was the most-played song on Australian radio, the most-streamed track in the market, and the No. 2 best-selling single for the first half, TMN reveals in its inaugural Singles & Market Share Report.

Flume (real name Harley Streten) would have landed the chart triple were it not for Lukas Graham’s ubiquitous, quadruple-platinum (280,000 units) hit "7 Years," which finished at No. 1 on the ARIA Top 10 Singles Chart for the first half.

"Never Be Like You," a collab with Canadian singer Kai, reached No. 1 on the weekly national sales chart in February (the first singles chart-topper for his label Future Classic) and it’s now triple platinum (210,000 units) certified.

Songs by Sia, Zara Larsson, Selena Gomez, Justin Bieber and Charlie Puth also performed well across the three main mid-year charts.

“This will be the first year that we’ve had a full streaming year and I think that we’re still understanding how streaming is impacting the Singles chart,” notes ARIA CEO Dan Rosen in the document. The rise of streaming means that “tracks hang around a bit longer than potentially under a download model, as people continue to listen and that’s impacting the chart,” he adds. “But I think we’ll see over the next few years, as streaming continues to grow, a bit more of a trend.”

Australia's Record Biz Returns to Growth in 2015

Flume has already clinched a stack of awards in the early phases of his career. His self-titled debut claimed top spot on the ARIA Albums Chart in 2013 and he finished that year with a swag of ARIA Awards, including best male artist. His sophomore album Skin bowed at No. 1 earlier this year, yielding "Never Be Like You" and the single "Say It” (which reached No. 5 on the national weekly chart).

TMN’s Singles & Market Share Report tracked more than 20 music charts from January to June 2016, including the ARIA, AIR, Airplay Hot 100, AMRAP, Spotify, iTunes and Shazam charts, and is the only consolidated survey of its kind. A free version of the report can be downloaded here
