Bishop Briggs' 'River' Rises on the Rock Charts
The single hits new peaks on five rankings, including Hot Rock Songs.
Bishop Briggs continues her ascent on Billboard's charts as "River" reaches new heights on five rock rankings.
"River" surges 19-14 on Rock Airplay (4 million in rock radio audience, up 31 percent, according to Nielsen Music) and 19-17 on the Alternative Songs airplay chart, scoring its highest peaks yet; the song debuted on each list in April.
In addition to its airplay growth, "River" rises 28-16 on the airplay/sales/streaming-based Hot Rock Songs chart, surpassing its prior No. 22 high set upon its debut in February. On Rock Digital Songs (No. 8) and Alternative Digital Songs (No. 9), the track reaches the top 10 for the first time, up by 91 percent to a new weekly best of 9,000 sold, aided by 69-cent sale-pricing in the iTunes Store.
The London-born, Los Angeles-based Briggs formerly went only by the name Bishop; as for her new moniker, she was born to Scottish parents from the town of Bishopbriggs, Scotland. She has released three songs to date, including newest track "The Way I Do."
The 23-year-old recently signed to Island Records and will open for Coldplay on tour this fall. No EP or full-length album has yet been announced.
