With her newest set, the singer bests the peak of 2012's "Visions."

Although it was announced less than two weeks before its Nov. 6 release, Grimes' Art Angels scores the singer her first No. 1 on Billboard's Alternative Albums chart. Grimes' semi-surprise second album opens at No. 1 on the tally (dated Nov. 28) with 11,000 sold in its first week, according to Nielsen Music.

Art Angels' start marks the California singer's best placement and sales week on the chart, topping 2012's Visions, her first album to chart, which debuted and peaked at No. 17 (5,000) on March 10, 2012.

The new record also bows at No. 2 on Independent Albums and No. 36 on the Billboard 200, both marking new peaks for Grimes (over prior highs of Nos. 13 and 98, respectively).

Art Angels' lead single, "Flesh Without Blood," concurrently climbs to a new best rank on Hot Rock Songs (29-23). It's Grimes' first entry on the chart.
