OMI's 'Cheerleader' Takes Lead for Top Song of the Summer

The pop/reggae smash unseats Wiz Khalifa's 'See You Again,' which led Billboard's Songs of the Summer chart through the first 13 weeks of the season. Now, with one summer tracking week left, can 'Cheerleader' finish at No. 1?

Just ahead of Labor Day, a new No. 1 takes over atop Billboard's Songs of the Summer chart, as OMI's "Cheerleader" dethrones Wiz Khalifa's "See You Again," featuring Charlie Puth, which led the list through the first 13 weeks of the season.

The Weeknd Returns to No. 1 on Billboard Hot 100

With one summer tracking week left, can "Cheerleader" wrap the summer at No. 1?

The 20-position Songs of the Summer running tally (up from 10 in previous years) tracks the most popular titles based on cumulative performance on the weekly Billboard Hot 100 chart from Memorial Day through Labor Day. At the end of the season, aka, next week, the top song of the summer will be crowned.

"Cheerleader" has climbed from No. 16 on the season's first Songs of the Summer survey, thanks to its ascent to No. 1 on the Hot 100 dated July 25, replacing "Again" after 12 weeks at No. 1 (beginning April 25, prior to the start of the summer tracking span).

Billboard's Summer Songs 1985-2014: From 'Shout' to 'Fancy'

With "Cheerleader" at No. 2 on the Hot 100, dropping from the top after six nonconsecutive weeks, and "Again" at No. 15 and continuing its descent, the breakthrough hit from OMI (born Omar Samuel Pasley) looks likely to close out summer as the season's top title.
