Beyonce's 'Vogue' Cover Sparks Social 50 Chart Rise
Beyonce bounds 37-13 on the Social 50 chart (dated Aug. 29) with a little help from her daughter Blue. The star posted five photos and a video clip on Instagram during the tracking week ending Aug. 16 from her recent cover shoot for the coveted September issue of Vogue (traditionally the publication's largest issue of the year). This is Beyonce’s third time on the cover of the fashion bible, also landing the April 2009 and March 2013 covers.
The Social 50 is powered by data tracked by music analytics company Next Big Sound and ranks the most popular artists on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, SoundCloud, Wikipedia, Instagram, Tumblr and Vine. The chart's methodology blends weekly additions of friends/fans/followers along with artist page views and engagement.
The artist also posted two “flashback Friday” pictures of her March 2013 cover, including a shot with daughter Blue at 11 months old. That snap has garnered 1.9 million likes and over 38,000 comments alone (through Aug. 18). In total, Beyonce gathered over 8.4 million reactions on the platform over the tracking week, a 548 percent increase, according to Next Big Sound.
Beyonce also posted pictures of the cover shoot on her Tumblr, where she received over 41,000 notes (up 71 percent).
Beyonce is the first female black musician to grace the September cover and just the third black woman to appear solo on the influential fashion issue. She follows Halle Berry in 2010 and Naomi Campbell in 1989 (Joan Small appeared on last year’s cover, alongside fellow models Cara Delevingne and Karlie Kloss).
