Tomorrow's Hits: R. City, Anderson East & Rico Richie
Each Friday, Billboard presents Tomorrow's Hits, a weekly look at new and noteworthy acts making their way toward Billboard chart success.
St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands songwriting/production duo R. City (brothers Theron and Timothy Thomas) releases its new single as an artist, "Locked Away," featuring Adam Levine (who turns in a refreshingly restrained falsetto-free vocal). The pop/reggae track, produced by Dr. Luke and Cirkut, previews the pair's Kemosabe/RCA EP, due this summer. R. City has previously written cuts for, among others, Beyonce, Miley Cyrus and Rihanna. –Gary Trust (@gthot20)
Singer/songwriter Anderson East is climbing the Adult Alternative Songs chart with his debut hit "Satisfy Me" (30-27). The soulful, retro cut, produced by Dave Cobb (Sturgill Simpson, Jason Isbell), is from his full-length debut, Delilah (Elektra/Atlantic). East made his national TV debut on NBC's Late Night With Seth Meyers July 15 and has tour dates with the likes of Brandi Carlile and The Lone Bellow lined up through November. –Keith Caulfield (@keith_caulfield)
Atlanta rapper Rico Richie approaches the Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop airplay chart with "Poppin" (L.E.G.) The gritty trap cut, from his upcoming album Realest Story Ever Told, received an A-list boost in June when it was remixed by Meek Mill, French Montana and Chris Brown. Hometown station WSTR is championing the song, having played it 44 times in the week ending July 12, according to Nielsen Music. –Amaya Mendizabal (@Amayayayaya)
